JABA, one of Jerry's Annual Bike Adventures. They repeat a Sand Hills self contained ride, and take me along. I used my P-38 recumbent, outfitted for touring. I added a front suspension fork with a disk brake.
The first of June, this was HOT. 90s were the norm. We did a loop south, then west, then north, and back from Ainsworth, Nebraska. No rain, but plenty of stiff winds at times. This is a camping trek. We stayed at the only totally planted national forest at Halsey.
I tried to go as light as possible, as I was trying out my Ray-Way tarp and other things for my John Muir Trail Hike.
The ride was remote, with little water or service between towns. The Sand Hills of Nebraska are rather hostile, but I find them quite beautiful. I did have to push my bike through the sand of the non paved road through the SE corner of Cherry County. There we found a nice old mercantile store, the kind that has everything; and some shade at a church at the start of the blactop.
Camping at Bassett was great, and they have a great steakhouse and breakfast in the hotel there. Marilyn's is a one of a kind, and fairly fancy notions store in Ainsworth, NE.
