Obviously, I am not a liberal. If you would leave a 3 year old unattended
in your running car alone, and think it is 'okay' because "I'm only gone a
second"; then you won't agree with me on
this issue. Gun ownership requires responsibility. I am not an anarchist, or bigot. I am pro society, art,
order and police. But police usually show up with a clipboard after the
incident. I choose not to be a victim. In America we still have a
choice. If it is not your choice, let it still be mine!
 | IPSC Came before USPSA, mostly
synonymous with Jeff
Cooper, the fountainhead of modern pistolcraft. Still mostly
international now.
|
 | USPSA
 | My member number is B-1, to help the new group stand on their own
feet, and not beholding to any one man. |
 | For awhile all there really was in practical pistol, slowly slid toward
high tech gear and gaming. |
|
 | IDPA The old masters decided USPSA was
only a politically correct game. To return to the IPSC "practical"
roots. A currently evolving group. |
 | Gunsite Ranch was owned and run
by Jeff Cooper in the 70's and 80's. I went there twice in those days
for primary and advanced practical pistol training. Many of my
instructors have moved on to bigger and better things. |
 | Thunder Ranch is run by
Clint Smith, who trained me with combat shotgun when he was at Gunsite.
This is where I would go now. I doubt you can find better training
anywhere, and that includes the federal government. |
 | Lethal Force Institute Ayoob is
good. Plus he knows the most about legal ramifications of firearm use.
Writer for many 'gun' magazines. |
 | Chapman Academy Ray Chapman, one
of the first practical pistol shooting champions, has always had a good
academy. |
 | Cylinder and Slide Custom
gunsmithing. If you simply can't afford Bill, buy a
Glock 21. What is your life
and family worth?
 | My old buddy Bill Laughridge will take care of you. Premium work! |
|
 | Wilson Combat The Arkansas
connection. Bill Wilson is a master shooter in his own right. |
A handgun is only a defensive weapon. If you are at home, use a
shotgun with birdshot instead. Buy something in
.45 ACP, learn how to use it well.
Do not show it unless your life is threatened. Then use it efficiently,
usually in short, close interpersonal relationships; less than 7 yards. Do
not be cavalier, do not threaten or intimidate. Run or hide, if possible.
Get covered. But
if you are forced to defend, it will change your life for ever...make NO
mistake about that.
