A tour after Sturgis to Glacier National Park and then to Yellowstone.  Yellowstone was a zoo.  Glacier is a premium ride.  Do Yellowstone in the off season.  Motorcycling the heavy traffic in Yellowstone is unpleasant.  Try to do the Chief Joseph Highway from Cody, to Cooke City, and over to Red Lodge.  That ride is as good (almost) as Glacier.  All good pavement.

Glacier Motor Inn at east entrance.

A secret. No TV or anything but a store and kinda eatery. But very quiet and secluded. Clean.

Glacier Motor Inn.

The parking area in front of motel. The east side of Going To The Sun Road is behind Susie. Nice view from porch.

Glacier Park Motor Inn.

You do a lot of laundry frequently on a bike. I like bicycle shorts for long touring rides. Try it.

Glacier Park Motor Inn.

Susie sits on the porch of our motel. Spartan, but nice. Clothes dry quickly in the mountains. Over 100 coming through Montana.

Going-To-The-Sun-Road.

Looking east to the pass, approaching from the most scenic part of the road...and most curvy.

Going-To-The-Sun-Road.

Curvy road is fun. A bicyclist fell off at night and was killed. A lot of traffic, especially mid day. The pass is the notch in the mtn.

Logan Pass.

The crossover, where the visitor center is.

Highline Trail.

Take this along the continental divide, lunch at Granite Park Chalet, north over the divide and down to the Many Glacier Hotel. 17 moderate miles. One of the best hikes.

Highline Trail to west side of divide.

The highway is coming up from the west along the slope on the left. The trail runs along the continental divide. Sorry her eyes were closed.

Highline trail.

It jogs down and then goes right. The roadway is on the face above at the pass.

Highline Trailhead.

A few mountain goats with young were there. The trail is cut in the mountain wall. Grizzly bears sometimes use it as well as humans! Could be interesting.

Highline Trail.

Well, it was unusual.

Trident Peak.

The tundra walk above the visitor center below me. Note Gerbing electric liner...makes a nice jacket.

Visitor Center.

You bring the lunch, no food there. No parking either at mid day, as rangers turn people away. Motorcycles take up less space, but you will have plenty of company.

Visitor Center Sheep.

These Big Horns stayed just off the boardwalk. I had a Wy license once, but these know where it is safe. In the wild you're lucky to see one a mile off.

Canada, Waterton Lakes.

Waterton Lakes is the Canada Park flowing into Glacier.

Prince of Wales Hotel.

On a peninsula into the Lake. Canadians have a different idea of what a national park should be.

Prince of Wales Hotel.

Great gormet lunch there. The staff wear kilts, looks quaint.

Prince of Wales Hotel.

Looking through the great glass of the foyer. This was a day trip from Glacier. Use the Glacier Customs Crossing.

Waterton Township.

You buy land, have a cabin, water ski, play golf. All in a national park. Would never happen in US, but Canada has more wild places than we do.

Waterton Lakes Valley.

Susie stands on the Prince of Wales peninsula with the bulk of Waterton Lakes Peace Park to the left. The township is behind her head, and the hotel is behind you.

Many Glacier Hotel.

Looking west onto the hotel from the parking lot. This hotel is old, on the east side of Glacier Park.

Many Glacier Great Room.

One of the grand railroad hotels of old. A little musty, but a great place for a day walk or a boat ride.

Many Glacier Balcony.

This peak across the lake from the hotel is on the logo of the Great Northern Railroad. Glaciers carved all these valleys.

McDonald Lake.

The lake is on the West (wetter) side of Glacier Park. More civilized, or crowded over here. The road goes to Kalispell, Montana.

Mammoth Springs Visitor Center.

The lowest part of Yellowstone. It gets very hot here. Also open in winter, where the army stayed to protect the park in the 1800's.

Hamilton Store at Old Faithful.

Get a great hamburger, malt, & ice cream here. This old store was built along the main road-now a walk. A secret now off the main paths.

Castle Geyser at Yellowstone.

Yes, we saw Old Faithful. This one is on the long walk that used to be the road into the geyser basin.

Morning Glory Pool.

Still glorious, but beat up from trash thrown in. You have to walk over a mile to see it, but that keeps most undesirables out.

Grand Canyon of The Yellowstone.

Lower falls at Artist's point. Definitely drive to the other side for this view.

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

Not a cutout. The people & traffic were very heavy, and obnoxious.
