The Sioux City Garden Club is over 80 years old. The club is independent and not affiliated with any group. Not as robust as in the 1930's, but active. In the 1930's the club boasted over 3,000 members! I publish the current newsletter here as a convenience to the membership. I am a past president of the Garden Club and current editor of the "Seedling". We would like you to join us. Would you like an Application?
The yearly Green Thumb Sale of the Sioux City Garden Club is usually the Saturday after Mother's Day in May. In 2010 the date is May 15th. The place is the Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Avenue, Sioux City; starting at 8:00 a.m.
That day you can purchase locally ground, hardy plants from Garden Club members' gardens. Plants may also be available from Bluebird Nursery, Clarkson, Nebraska. The cost is very reasonable, as most of the plants are excesses from our own gardens. You can be sure that these plants will grow well in our USDA Zone 4. Club members, many of whom are Master Gardeners, will be available to increase your knowledge of plants and planting. We supply various free handouts to help your gardening.
Be sure to come to the Sale, if just to learn something, or share ideas with fellow gardeners. Whereas you can purchase plants, the entire affair is FREE and open to the public.
Some previous spring sale profits went to the financing of Sioux City's ONLY private public park. That park is Latham Park in Morningside. Financed by the Latham Family Trust, the money was given by the Latham sisters in the '30s. Their money is almost gone. Support Latham Park!!
Here is the current Seedling, the official publication of the Sioux City Garden Club:

Mom, the "nuts and bolts" content editor, wanted the address side to be different. So, sometimes I add something extra; like below.
