Carrie is our African (Congo) Red-tailed Grey Parrot.  She is over 9 years old now, but may live over 50 years.  Greys can achieve the intelligence of a 4 year old child!  She is a good talker, always my voice, because she is bonded to Susie.  Her words are appropriate for her surroundings, and I think she knows the meaning of many of her words.  She was born in the USA, and was not captured in the wild.  These birds can't be taken legally to the US now, but the rest of the world is still capturing them.  They are raised with humans from hatching and are bonded to humans.  They can not return to the wild.  Other Congo Grey links you may like: Grey Play Roundtable or N'kisi

horizontal rule

"I could jump down there."

"You just stay right here."

"I'd like to get on your shoulder."

"I think you better stay down there."

White eye patch.

Greys are prey species. The dark feathers make them invisible in the shade of the jungle canopy. The white patch around the eye looks like a BIG eye of a BIG critter from a distance.

I'm a little suspicious of you.

Come a little closer, so I can chomp on you! The beak is formidable. Snickers the cat keeps his distance.

Friends watching TV.

Carrie likes to chew on Susie's Cape. It is made for this, with little beads and rawhide.

Carrie on the mobile feeding stand.

"I'd rather get down on the floor and walk around."

Carrie sits on her T stand in the bathroom.

Carrie likes to be with Susie in the bathroom. Carrie does the singing when Susie takes a shower. Parrots like to stay with their "flock" members.

Carrie outside the cage.

Her cage is her kingdom. When she is outside and can climb up on top, she's better than you...until you stand up above her. The king is the highest bird in the tree!

Carrie on her "T" stand.

The "T" stand is on rollers. Here it is in the sunroom, where Carrie likes to call in the crows. She will sit patiently for hours on her stand. It does have food and treats for her.

Watching the Movie downstairs.

Snickers sleeps on Susie's lap while Carrie stays on the shoulder. All friends, nobody bothers anyone because we are all in the same "flock".

Reading the morning paper.

Carrie likes to sit with Susie, both reading the paper. Mostly Carrie likes the chance to chew on it.
