With all the televised sports, you would not think that bird watching is the number one sporting activity.  More money is spent on bird watching than any other leisure activity.

In western Iowa there is a varied 4 season migration of birds through the state as well as permanent residents.  Arctic birds and warblers migrate through in the spring.  Flocks of geese as well as fall warblers pass through in the fall, and many northern species winter here.  Summer here is the breeding area for a surprising number of birds.

Some specialties are Bald Eagle migrations in Nebraska, and Sandhill Cranes.
